Kyambura Lion Monitoring Project Supported by Lion Recovery Fund
The Kyambura Lion Monitoring Project is honoured to receive support and funding from the Lion Recovery Fund for the 2024 lion census in Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area (QECA).
Thanks to their generous support, the team have made great progress since the start of the census in August, driving over 8,000km so far.
The census is conducted by the dedicated team, led by field coordinators Bosco and Orin, driving through the park at least 6 days per week, using the Bayesian spatial capture-recapture sampling method, and recording the exact tracks driven and locations of lion sightings with GPS. Each lion’s identification is determined by photographs taken of their whisker spot patterns on both sides of their face.
