Celebrating the Life and Legacy of the Late Dr. Jane Goodall

On 14 October Volcanoes Safaris Uganda Manager Simon Kaweesi and COO Kevin James, joined the Jane Goodall Institute at a Thanksgiving Memorial celebrating the life and legacy of the late Dr. Jane Goodall, the world-renowned primatologist and conservationist.

Kevin James, COO Volcanoes Safaris, spoke on behalf of the Ugandan tourism industry and paid tribute to Jane’s inspiring work and pledged to carry forward her legacy by:

1. Supporting the Uganda Wildlife Authority Chimpanzee Conservation Action Plan launched by Jane in 2023.

2. Deepening community-centred conservation through the Jane Goodall Institute Roots and Shoots program for schoolchildren.

3. Following chimp and gorilla tourism protocols to prevent disease transfer to chimpanzees as this is crucial to the survival of the great apes. Ecotourism must be sensitive and controlled.

Volcanoes Safaris were honored to pay their respects at the memorial alongside distinguished guests including: James Byamukama ED, and Peter Apell, Jane Goodall Institute; Representative of First Lady Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities; Prof. James Kalema Board Chairman, Uganda Wildlife Authority; Joshua Rukundo, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary; British High Commission; schoolchildren from Trinity and St. Theresa primary schools; Christopher Ebal, NFA and Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, CTPH.
